Professor Andy Johnston, a biologist at the University of East Anglia in Britain, discovered that the distinctive smell of the sea comes from a molecule called dimethyl sulfide (a flammable liquid that does not dissolve in water)

During the day, the surface of the earth is warmed to a higher degree than the surface of the sea. Because warm air is lighter than cold air, the warm, light air begins to rise upwards and thus the pressure becomes lower than the pressure above the sea surface and thus the sea air replaces the rising land air and this phenomenon is called the sea breeze for those living on the coast
